NIT Staff: Ebony has over a 10 year career within tech starting off as a Software Engineer and finally landing as a Project Delivery Senior Manager.  In her spare time she also mentors women assisting them in landing their dream role in tech. 


Now that we’ve gotten the basics out of the way, Ebony tell us a little more about your background:


I am a woman of African descent born, raised, and educated in the Deep South.  I grew up in a working class family and now make six figures as a techie. I was naturally drawn to computers as young as 8 years old. I graduated Tuskegee University with a BS in Computer Science.  I pursued a Masters in Business Information Technology at DePaul University.

What technical certifications do you have? (if any)
Professional Scrum Master

What do you do to stay up-to-date on your technical certifications and knowledge?
I maintain an Azure and Office 365 subscription as my personal DevLab.

What coding language (if any) are you most comfortable with?
C#, PowerShell, HTML

What is your biggest challenge working in tech?
My biggest challenge is building a network of women and BIPOC to support and champion my growth.

NIT Staff: Your story is so similar to that of our Founder who is deeply passionate about getting more BIPOC into tech fields. We heard you have a mentorship program helping women transition into tech. You suggested that tech is even more than just coding. What the coolest project you have worked on?

I was a software developer for spy satellites.

What are you passionate about outside of tech?

My mission is to train 1,000 women in tech so they can secure $100,000 salaried careers.  Tech careers is a way we can close the earning gap in the African American community.

What are your goals for the future?

In the next 1-3 years, I want to train 1,000 women in tech so they can secure $100,000 salaried careers.  In 3-5 years, I will generate $1.5 million in revenue for tech-enabled, women-owned, black-owned companies.

Who’s your favorite Tech celebrity and why?

Elon Musk.  Elon has leverage tech to disrupt the automobile industry.
